Reflecting on Cycling and Learning to Read.
Given the current situation due to COVID-19, the educational debate about schools reopening, and parents advocating for their children with dyslexia to receive appropriate academic support services, adults sometimes forget that the victims in this are the children. Children’s mental health is very important as they not only need the appropriate academic services schools can provide, but they also need to stay encouraged. Feeling hopeful is difficult when you feel like the world is falling apart and you struggle with reading, which can be overwhelming. When I was on my bike, I reflected on the situation parents, students with dyslexia, and their teachers encounter when life is ‘normal’, and how much worse it is now when life is so uncertain. What does it mean for me to be a husband, a father, a scholar, an author, and an advocate? What can I do to help? On this particular ride, I thought about being vulnerable and having the courage to share my thoughts about how I see cycling as a process similar to learning to read in this short video ( 👈🏾 click on video to watch).
Both journeys are a process
I like it big brother!
